Customer accounts, the Customers screen, and the quick ways to keep your stock counts right: the Stocktake screen and the stock box on the items list.
Anyone can buy without an account: they just check out as a guest. Customer accounts are an extra that whoever set up your site can switch on. Ask them if you want it.
With accounts on, shoppers can sign up from Create an account, or tick Create an account for faster checkout and to see all your orders at checkout. They are never signed in straight away. They are emailed a link to confirm their address, and clicking it signs them in.
Once signed in, a customer has My orders, My details and My addresses. Checkout fills in their name and email, and offers their saved addresses as cards to pick from. Their basket follows them to another device. Guest orders placed earlier with the same email join their account once they have confirmed it.
The Basket block in your header shows Sign in or Account beside the bag when accounts are on, so customers can always find their way in.
With accounts on, Customers appears under Shop in the sidebar. It lists everyone who made an account, with their Orders, how much they have Spent, when they Last signed in and when they Joined. Guests who never made an account are not here; their orders are in Orders.
Search by name or email, or choose Confirmed or Not confirmed yet. A Not confirmed badge means they have not clicked their confirmation link, so they cannot sign in yet.
Customers with accounts.
Click a customer to see their details, saved basket size, saved addresses and every order. You can never see or set a customer's password. Instead, in Can’t sign in?:
Delete account removes their sign-in and saved basket. Their orders are kept as guest orders. You type their email address to confirm, and it cannot be undone.
Go to Catalogue and open your products catalogue. Each row shows the Price and the Stock, with a Sold out, Low or Made to order badge where it applies.
For a product with one option, the stock is a box you can type in. Type the new number and press Enter, or click away, and it saves. A blank box means the stock is not counted. A product with several options shows "N options": change those on its Selling card or on Stocktake.
The Stock filter shows only products that are Sold out, Running low, Not counted or Not for sale. The dashboard's sold-out and running-low counts open the same filtered list. "Running low" means at or below Low-stock warning at in Settings → Shop.
Stocktake under Shop lists every option you sell, grouped by catalogue, so you can update all your counts at once after a delivery or a count.
Free to sell shows today's count. If some are on paid orders you have not sent yet, it says so ("N in paid orders not yet sent"). Those are still on your shelf but already sold, so they are taken off the number you type.
Typing a number for an option that was not counted starts counting it. An option that was sold out and gets a number goes back on sale, and everyone waiting for it is emailed.
Stocktake.
If a product's When it's sold out is set to offer "Email me when it's back", shoppers can leave their email on its page. The Selling card shows how many are waiting under each option.
As soon as that option is back in stock, whether you type a count, flip it to In stock, or a refund puts items back, each person gets one Back in stock email. Their address is then deleted.
