Getting started
How to sign in, what the dashboard tells you, how the sidebar is laid out, and where your own account settings live.
Forgotten your password? Click Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen and Cairn emails you a link to set a new one.
The Dashboard is a summary of your site. Along the top are counts, and each card you can click takes you to the screen behind it. If your site runs a shop, the top row shows Revenue, Orders, Products and Users.
Below that is a row of cards for the parts of Cairn your site uses, such as Pages (how many, and how many are published), Catalogue, Forms, Redirects, Leads and Bookings today. A card only appears when that part is switched on.
If anything needs you, a Needs attention list appears with a button beside each item that takes you straight to it. Further down are cards for the Media library, Accounts, Recent sign-ups and Settings.
The dashboard. What you see depends on which parts of Cairn your site runs.
The menu down the left of the admin is the sidebar. To keep the screen clear it starts closed: click the menu button in the top-left corner to slide it out. It closes again when you pick something, press Escape or click its X. If you would rather keep it open, click the pin at the top of the sidebar. It then stays docked beside your work until you unpin it.
The sidebar is grouped:
Not everyone sees every item. An item only appears when its part of Cairn is switched on for your site, so a site without a shop has no Shop group at all. Some items, including Themes, everything under Shop, Leads, Members and everything under System, only show to administrators. See Users and permissions.
The sidebar, open.
If a screen you expect is missing, that part of Cairn is switched off for your site, or your account isn't allowed to use it. Ask whoever set up your site.
Click your site's name at the very top of the sidebar for a quick menu of things you can create: New page, New reusable block, New form, New catalogue, New catalogue item, New booking and New user. As with the sidebar, you only see the ones your site and your account allow.
The same menu ends with View live site, which opens your public site in a new tab.
Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Profile. The Profile screen has four parts:
Delete Account removes your account for good. If you only want to stop someone else using the admin, an administrator can do that from Users instead.
Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Log Out. The same menu also shows the version of Cairn your site is running, which is useful if you ever need to report a problem.
